Frequently Asked Questions…

  • What does Analog Brass *do*?

We play music! Specifically we have been know to play shows, busk, and perform at weddings. We like to keep things flexible to what the moment needs. We’ve also played as a backing band for award shows like the one What’s Up! Magazine put together before they shut down, as well as stand up comics at comedy venues like The Upfront Theatre. We’ve played as a marching outfit a couple times for Western Washington University, and we’ve featured as a horn line at several artists shows, as well as on their records!

  • What is brass band music?

That’s a big question, but basically a brass band is an ensemble full of brass, wood wind instruments, and percussion that play in a style specific to a cultural region that practices brass band music. I know it’s vague, but they have brass bands in England, and they sound different from the Eastern European ones or the Brazilian ones. The best brass bands in the world hands down though are from New Orleans, and the strongest influence on our sound comes from the New Orleans Second Line tradition, which is a whole thing of its own.

  • Are y’all a political group?

Yes! As artists we like to think that the pure expression of art can be perceived through different lenses. You can look at art from an entertainment perspective, a political perspective, an economic perspective, a cultural one, etc. and for us it’s important to use our platform in a political way to influence others and advocate for communities like the New Orleans community, the houseless community, BIPOC communities, and so on. Intersectionality is the name of the game!

In the past we have worked with BLM groups like Stand Speak Listen here in town, as well as other groups like BOP Mutual Aid or People First Bellingham through either selling our records and merch at shows to help fund raise for them or directly perform on their behalf at their events.

  • Where are you from?

    We’re from Bellingham Washington!

  • Can we hire you?

    Yes! Message us at AnalogBrassMusic@Gmail.com

  • What are your rates?

Basically, it depends! We usually charge based on how much work it takes for us to do what you want. For instance just sending out a single horn player to feature on one song on a set is easier than being booked out for a wedding(and having to coordinate all nine band members and pay them all individually for their time). If you ask us to do something, then we’ll ask what you want more specifically, and then we can give you a quote based on how much work it takes!

  • Do you teach trumpet, sax, trombone, sousaphone, percussion, writing, arranging, etc.?

Yes! Email us for inquiries at AnalogBrassMusic@Gmail.com or look to our Contact page to see what we offer as well as who’s in the market for teaching!

  • Are you affiliated with Western Washington University?

Complicated question, but basically: not really no. We used to rehearse out of the school of music at the university, and a lot of the musicians in this group were music majors there, and we’ve been hired by WWU for lots of college gigs. But we aren’t tied to the university in any official capacity.

  • What’s that big thing?

It’s a sousaphone, a lot of people call it a tuba(the instrument you sit down with), but whatever
